Wealth Management Business Risk Managers (BRMs) play a key role within Wealth Management (WM) first line of defense. The Business Risk Managers are the internal referent, for one or several markets, on the following subjects: AML, CDB, Sanctions, Risk Appetite and KYT/KYC issues. The WM BRM function was created in 2022 and is currently operating in UBP Swiss entities, both in Zürich and Geneva. The Head of WM BRM Zürich has a dual reporting line to UBP Zürich Management and UBP Geneva Management.


Mission

The new Head of WM Business Risk Management Zurich will manage a team of 4 people.


Main responsibilities

BRM function’s mission and values are:

  • Foster, promote and maintain appropriate quality of business deliveries of WM teams with regards to AML, CDB, Sanctions, Risk Appetite and KYT/KYC subjects
  • Act as an intermediary between Compliance and WM markets on AML, CDB, Sanctions, Risk Appetite and KYC/KYT subjects
  • Actively contribute to the WM Markets awareness on these subjects
  • Adopt a change-oriented approach and propose solutions to enhance the quality and the effectiveness of processes

The challenges of the Head of WM BRM Zürich are:

  • To ensure that corporate guidelines and standards are applied and aligned with the Swiss and group policies within the BRM function in Zurich
  • To actively lead and contribute to the success of the WM BRM function missions and values
  • To bring expertise on a fast-growing Mediterranean Market, with a focus on Turkey and Greece

Responsibilities: 

  • Lead and manage a team of 4 people
  • Ensure appropriate coverage of the UBP Zurich and Basel WM markets by the BRMs
  • Coordinate BRMs activities to ensure timeliness in the tasks management
  • Ensure adequate AML and KYC risk mitigation and adherence to Bank’s qualitative risk appetite on client onboardings, change in circumstances (CIC), and other reviews
  • Ensure continuous AML/CDB risk framework awareness, keeping WM front office and BRM knowledge, education and sensitivity up to date
  • Synchronize with WM Compliance teams as well as Central File teams to ensure standards are met on onboarding, mutations (CiC) and client reviews and to escalate any detected risks or operational issues
  • Contribute, and ensure that BRMs review and close all normal and medium risk transactional alerts clarified by the front office
  • Launch event-driven reviews following significant changes in circumstances in the clients relationship lifecycles
  • Increase risk awareness within the WM Markets by ensuring that RMs are aware of internal directives, of the regulatory requirement and updated on all new practices with a focus on AML, CDB and sanction subjects
  • Bring expertise to the WM Greece and Mediterranean market in Zurich
  • Foster and leverage upon synergies with the WM BRM function in Geneva to always ensure appropriate coverage (act as “one team”)
  • Upon management’s request, act as a relay of authority within the BRM and WM markets on certain initiatives

Personal skills

  • Managerial and leadership experience required
  • Excellent communication skills with the flexibility to interact with different levels of seniority

  • Ability to identify possible risk or operational issues


    Education

    • Education: Bachelor Degree
    • Certification: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a related field or an equivalent qualification
    • IT Tools: Microsoft Office, Power-BI is a plus

    Experience

    • Years of experience: 7-10 : senior
    • Experience required:
    • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in Compliance (Financial Crime) activities, or a similar position
    • Further education in Compliance required for this role
    • Expertise in the Mediterranean market is desired for this role
    • Fluent in English; German and/or Turkish and/or Greek and/or Hebrew skills is a benefit for this role
    • Experience in private banking: Mandatory
