At UBP we have a series of in-house conferences called Well-Being Talks, for which we invite expert speakers who share insights on health topics to help employees optimise their mental and physical well-being. We recently hosted psychologist Helena Casazza who came to talk about emotions.
A healthcare professional certified by the Swiss Federation of Psychologists, Helena specialises in emergency psychology and emotional skills training. She divides her time between consulting for the police and running Ayulen, an emotional, psychological, and physical health development centre serving companies.
During the session, titled ‘How to better understand and manage our emotions in our personal and professional lives’, she discussed various 'basic' emotions and how to approach them.
Helena cites six basic emotions: joy, fear, anger, sadness, surprise and disgust. In order to handle them optimally, you need to have the ability to identify, regulate, understand, and express them.
Particularly helpful for the audience was her insight into differences in values, aspirations, and motivations between the generations – baby-boomers, and Generations X, Y, Z, and Alpha. Your age will strongly influence to what extent you are guided by duty, attainment, freedom, social connections, or status. This in turn will affect your emotional reactions to events and situations. The trend observed from one generation to the next is that nowadays the younger a person is, the more likely they are to be aware of their own and other people’s emotions, and to express them.
Knowing all this and approaching a person with that fact in mind will help emotional understanding, in personal and in professional relationships.
UBP is grateful to Helena Casazza for her valuable teachings which will be nothing but beneficial for us in maintaining our culture of teamwork and positive energy.
