Setting sail with Justine Mettraux

We had the privilege of welcoming sailor Justine Mettraux to a unique in-house conference at the Bank. She spoke about her experiences at sea, and in particular about her preparations for the next Vendée Globe – the biggest single-handed, non-stop, round-the-world yacht race.


In front of an audience of 200 UBP employees, Justine touched on her plans for the upcoming Vendée Globe in November and the physical and mental preparation this requires. She also spoke about each individual’s role in a team race and how you manage a boat when you race single-handedly.

Following her speech, the audience took the opportunity to ask Justine about the details of life on board her IMOCA yacht and what her fears are when she finds herself alone with no sign of dry land on the horizon.

The audience left inspired by the valuable insight Justine had given them into the art of both teamwork and self-discipline, skills that are valuable in any undertaking, whether at sea or on land.
